Hobby Lobby
We went to Hobby Lobby yesterday afternoon. Nothing else going on, and we needed some arts and crafts supplies for our daughter. If you’ve ever been to Hobby Lobby, you know—cheap stuff and lots of it.
When we got there, it was business as usual. Our son rode in the stroller; our daughter likes to ride in the cart. But today, her head was on a swivel. It was sensory overload. Every two seconds it was, “I wanna go there!” or “I wanna see that!” So, against my better judgment, I let her walk.
Now, you’re probably thinking this is going to turn into one of those stories where she trashed the store. But—much to my pleasant surprise—she didn’t. Not even close. She was great.
She did, however, find a bell.. Think Salvation Army-outside-the-grocery-store-at-Christmas bell. She wanted it. She kept it. And she rang it. A lot.
And you’re probably saying out loud right now, “Why the hell didn’t you stop her?” Fair question.
But here’s the thing—while she was ringing that bell, she was walking down the aisle, speaking (not yelling, but using her big voice—something she’s been working on in school) and telling everyone she saw, “HAPPY CHRISTMAS!”
I didn’t have the heart to stop her. It was too cute.
Also… it was October 4th.
But she was so happy—using her big voice, spreading Christmas cheer to anyone within earshot—in October.
So no, we didn’t stop her. We just asked her to tone it down a notch when she got too loud. Otherwise, she was great. We laughed about it and so did most of the other folks in the store.
Love ya, kid. It made me happy seeing you so happy.
